I’m lucky because I’m a dating coach and image consultant to just as many men as women, and these guys are constantly telling me what clothes they want women to wear. And I have to tell you – what men find sexy isn’t always what you might think.
For example, a lot of women think men want them to look like they belong in an issue of Maxim, but that’s not necessarily the reality. The truth is men are really aware of the difference between a woman who is sexy, and a woman who looks slutty. So while they might find it hot for the woman on the cover of Maxim to pose in a barely there skirt, they don’t necessarily want that same look for a woman they are seriously considering settling down with.
To help you put together outfits that men will always find sexy – never slutty! – I put together the following three tips based on interviews and conversations I’ve had with hundreds of men about their likes and dislikes regarding women’s clothing.
Tip #1: Maintain a little mystery.
Contrary to popular belief, men don’t actually want to see everything you’ve got right away! They find it sexiest when you’re wearing something that’s sophisticated, beautiful and fits your body well without showing too much skin. For example, a black dress with a modest front and an open back, or a silky blouse with a lace camisole peeking through. It’s that alluring mixture of conservative and sex appeal that drives men wild.
Tip #2: Wear simple clothes that fit your body.
Men like to see the curve of a woman’s shape, so avoid big, billowy blouses and trapeze dresses, even though they’re in style right now. You want to pick items that are simpler in shape and hug your curves in all the right places. Also, most guys aren’t crazy about loud patterns, so if you really want to appeal to men stick with solid colors like black, red, turquoise or white.
Tip #3: Dress feminine!
Whenever you’re meeting a man – especially if it’s for the first time – embrace your feminine, sexy side. Put away the boyfriend jeans, the Uggs and your corporate blazers, and slip on a sexy pair of heels and a gorgeous dress that you look and feel absolutely amazing in. Trust me – he will love it.
A final note…
Remember that men are very sensitive to the difference between a woman who is sexy and a woman who looks slutty. Your dress can be short OR tight, but not both – especially if it’s a first date or during the day. Also, if you can’t bend over, dance or get out of the car without flashing something, that’s not the right outfit for you. Take your time in picking out something that’s both sexy and conservative, and I guarantee your date won’t be able to get you out of his head.
Kimberly, as a single white male I would offer this advice to your single female audience, “It’s not what you wear, it’s how you wear it.” 😉 Often the simplest and least revealing clothing can be the sexiest outfit in your closet.

Kimberly: You are right on with your comments. Contrary to your comment about solid colors in a dress. In the winter that is ok. In the summer If a woman wears a white dress with a flowery print she has me in her corner.
